Climate Resilience Planner

The Arrowhead Regional Development Commission (ARDC) has a full-time Climate Resilience Planner opening in its ARDC Planning Division.

The Climate Resilience Planner is responsible for leading ARDC’s regional climate resilience and adaptation planning efforts in Minnesota’s Lake Superior Coastal Region. Program goals will be achieved through five overarching goals: 1) establishing a regional resilience collaborative; 2) incorporating indigenous knowledge and practices; 3) building community capacity; 4) creating a regional resilience plan and pathways to implementation; and 5) providing resources and technical support to communities.

Full project responsibility to design, plan, and execute projects, including developing a work program with approval from supervisor, securing funding for programs and projects, developing contracts and grant agreements, and overseeing the program budgets.  Act as a liaison with public officials, agency representatives and community leaders.  Assist in the supervision of Planning Assistants, Associate Planners, Planners, fellows, and interns.  Serve as the lead staff of ARDC-related non-profit boards and committees as needed.  Assist division leadership with strategy development.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Four-year degree in a related field with four years pertinent experience, or a two-year degree with at least six years pertinent experience, or a Master’s Degree in a related field and at least two years of pertinent experience, or eight years pertinent experience.  Pertinent experience includes but is not limited to, working with boards, committees, and government entities, including local governments and tribal governments.  Demonstrated professional leadership is essential. Experience with regional planning, climate resilience and adaptation, or sustainability preferred.

 Also required: A valid driver’s license.

 Salary: $25.96-$33.17/hour (*based on experience)

Location:  Duluth, MN (Work from home options are available in a hybrid model.)

Internships – GIS/Planner (Fall 2024 and Spring 2025)

Hours: Up to 19 hours per week, Monday – Friday (flexible based on availability and business needs)

Wage: $12.00/per hour

GIS/Planning interns will be working in a professional setting in some of the following areas:  Comprehensive and strategic planning, land use/zoning, economic development, geographic information systems, health community planning, bicycle and pedestrian improvements and transportation planning.  

Qualified internship candidates must:

  • Be a student enrolled at a college or university and have the ability to register for intern credits-preferably in a Planning, GIS, Geography, or related program. If the registration period is closed, candidates must sign a letter of intent to register for internship credits at the next available registration period.  Have ability to conduct field work outdoors, sometimes in less than ideal weather
  • Have the ability to work in person at our offices, and remotely via internet connection
  • Be able to lift up-to 30 pounds
  • Be competent with: Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Esri ArcGIS (ArcGIS Online, ArcMap 10.X Desktop, ArcGIS Pro 2.X), Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point)
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Have the ability to work remotely via internet connection
