The Helmet Hero program serves schools within Minnesota’s Arrowhead Region. To be eligible for the program, your third grade classroom must be at a school within one of the following counties: Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, or Saint Louis.


  • A classroom visit by a licensed cycling instructor
  • 30-45 minutes of in-class, interactive instruction
  • Lessons about helmets, proper bicycling, how and when to use hand signals, and basic road safety
  • Distribution and fit of helmets
  • No cost to students or schools
